Weekly newsletter from Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute

Next two weeks at a glance!
Administration Note
I hope this newsletter finds you well.
Yom HaShoah, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day, is a time each year when we pause to remember the six million Jews, along with millions of others, who were brutally persecuted and murdered during the Holocaust by Nazi Germany and its collaborators. This year, the day of remembrance falls on Wednesday, April 23.
More than a historical commemoration, Yom HaShoah is a powerful reminder of the horrors that unfolded during World War II. It is a day to reflect not only on the suffering endured by Jewish communities, but also on the lives of Roma people, people with disabilities, political prisoners, and other marginalized groups who were targeted during this dark chapter in history.
As has been noted, this year, we are honoured to welcome Holocaust survivor Pinchas Gutter as a special guest at our Yom HaShoah Assemblies on Tuesday, April 22. His presence and testimony offer a rare and meaningful chance to hear a first-hand account of survival and resilience. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from him and carry forward his message.
Some further details re. our upcoming Assembly: this has been organized by LPCI’s JSA, under the (truly) exceptional leadership of teacher and Staff Advisor Sari Harris. Their thoughtful and meaningful work has garnered significant recognition and appreciation outside of LPCI, to the degree that we are welcoming several distinguished guests who will be attending the assembly, including:
The Honourable Paul Calandra, Ontario Minister of Education
The Honourable Michelle Cooper, MPP
Clayton La Touche, Director of Education, TDSB
Shelley Laskin, TDSB Trustee
Cassandra Alviani-Alvarez, Superintendent
Please join me in congratulating Ms. Harris and the JSA for their dedication and powerful contribution to Holocaust education and remembrance at LPCI.
Take care,
Michael Griesz, Principal
